Hi Larry, thank you for coming on the show.

Thank you, it’s very nice to be here Vivian.

Thank you so much Larry.

Larry, I wonder if you can begin by telling us the title of your book and something about your background and what happened that inspired your book.

Thank you, the title of the book is always at choice, not always at choice, but always at choice, and that’s on purpose because of the lesson that I learned when I was trying to be covered from my wife, our four children died the day after Christmas when she was years old and quite frankly I wasn’t handling it very well, but I was getting some help and that was the result of the help, learning that I was always at choice and my choice was to take care of my kids rather than pursue a career at that time and it all worked out.

It all worked out, that’s a way to sum up some very difficult times isn’t it? It is, because there were lots of, lots of, how can I say, ups and downs in that journey, but that was a good part of the journey, learning how to handle the ups and the downs and to just send it.

What I like is the lesson that I’ve learned in the last few years is you have a down and you just accept that it’s there and then eventually you convert it into a gift and an opportunity and that’s seemingly the way that it’s worked is I’ve been able to take every down and eventually, not right away, but after thinking about it for a while, see it as a gift and as an opportunity to do something else and that’s really where a lot of the growth comes from because they’ve identified what’s the next lesson for me to grow in, what’s the next lesson for me to improve my life with and so I’ve used other people to give me ideas on how to do it.

I haven’t been at all alone, I didn’t come up with all these ideas on my own, but in the book I’ve captured the lessons that I’ve learned from others and I’ve played a lot of things.

Not everything I’ve tried works, but I wrote about the ones that worked and hopefully that’ll be helpful to the people who read the book.

Yes, so it’s very interesting, isn’t it, that we can summarize so many years.

How many years has it been since your first wife passed, Larry? How many years is it? Well, she passed in so not past that much, but today is so that was the…

Yeah, so someone can do the arithmetic and not us, not in the age of alchemists, calculators, so it’s interesting how we can package something that’s very raw, very intense, very messy and then it can get packaged and streamlined into a few sentences like you just did now.

But what I want to do is just open that up a little bit and I think where we can begin is what is the meaning of the ship on the cover of your book? Thank you for that question, I love that question because the ship on the book is so meaningful.

I was in the psych ward with an art project and what that is is a picture of my actual cockle rubbing and when I did that ship, it meant for me leaving the darkness into the brightness with a whole bunch of sailors helping me sail that ship because I couldn’t sail it all alone and I needed other people to help me take that big ship into the brightness and so it became kind of a good thing for me to look back on over and over.

So the purpose of this journey for the Schapera show is to travel to the lower world and ask the spirits to please take me to an area in the lower world where I can experience healing and wisdom.

I go into my, I go into the hollowed out tree trunk where I use the portal in the floor.

I see it energetically charging up with some moving lights and a sense of spinning and I know I just need to put myself into that portal to start my descent to the lower world.

So I go through and I’m actually hanging on the underneath of the portal. My fingertips are still holding onto the edges, not out of any reluctance to go. It’s just a a new experience.

And I let go and start very gently, but definitely going down, going lower and down and down and down and putting out my request to the benevolent, compassionate, spirit helpers of the lower world to allow me to come to the lower world and for them to please take me to an area of the lower world where I will see and experience healing and wisdom.

Eudialyte and I are old acquaintances.

What an interesting stone.

It had the most gorgeous and indefinable inner glow.

Eudialyte has a very interesting appearance.

It is a deep pinkish red, sometimes burgundy color, mottled with black and white.

You know, Eudialyte was so difficult to describe that I went to get some help because it’s worth taking the trouble to do this.

The coloration of Eudialyte comes from the structure of it and that structure is what determines its capacities and its functions.

It is possible that you don’t know Aegirine and yet it is equally possible that you know Aegirine very well because it occurs together with Malawi smoky quartz, a very sought-after type of crystal and for good reason I might add.

Aegirine is like licorice.

It can be very dark green that looks black and it can be black.

The name comes from Ager, the Scandinavian god of the sea.

blockages, is the one that I discovered on my own when doing my research for crystal surgery.

And just to remind you the way I do the research is to identify a recurring property and once I have it in words that’s when I go to Melody and check whether she mentioned the particular property in her book.

I found that this method is more confirming than it try and look up which mineral purportedly has the desired property and then research the mineral because preconceived ideas are basically anathema to effective research for pretty obvious reasons.

So to finish the thought, in crystal surgery I use Aegirine together with Danburite with calcite to break up and clear emotional blockages which occur like knots in the energy field to literally scrape away with the calcite that’s on the Sybarite and then clear it with Aegirine.

When I asked my research assistants about Aegirine, including how it is formed, I got the following interesting answer.

Aegirine is one of the most structurally sophisticated minerals.

At first glance it appears almost severe, I can confirm that, black, blade-like, narrow, straightforward.

Yet that first impression is misleading.

Aegirine is not simple at all.

It is compressed complexity, a mineral that says a great deal with very little visible ornamentation.

Having now explored Everyday Magic with Vivien, I think I would describe it quite differently than I initially did.

This is the part of the show where I, Vivien, talk to and about crystals, and our crystal guest today is Elestial Quartz. An Elestial Quartz crystal is characterized by layers of terminations on the body of the crystal. This is very difficult to picture, I know, and it is a very hard crystal. I recommend doing an image search online to see examples of these crystals. I encourage you to follow up on this because when you hear what I have to say about Elestial Quartz, you will realize that Elestial Quartz belongs on the must-have list.

Elestial Quartz comprises two out of the first ten crystals I ever acquired. The very first milky quartz point I got in a nice and junk shop is technically an Elestial Quartz because around the base there is a layer of smaller terminations. To be clear, these are not little-formed crystals, which would make it a cluster, but just raised semi-formed crystal shapes with terminations. I know it is hard to picture, so I recommend looking at images online.

The second one is a Smoky Quartz Elestial which I fell in love with at the Cincinnati Gem and Mineral Show, the first time I went to a gem show. When you begin collecting anything, including crystals, you are very cautious about what you buy because you are basically ignorant and unsure about what to do. Elestial crystals are not that common, so I think it is very interesting that I chose two Elestials so early on in my crystal acquisition phase.

Now, I can certainly understand why I was attracted to Elestial Quartz because I know more about it. Elestial Quartz works amazingly on our emotional system, allowing for flow, change, and actualization. Those are big words with big meanings, and Elestial Quartz delivers. It is amazing to look at, full of interest, and radiates a unique energy that is both soothing and invigorating. I challenge you to hold an Elestial Quartz for 10–15 minutes and not come out feeling inspired.

Crystal Healing Techniques

Thank you for joining us in the study of crystals and crystal healing, including all the background information that we need, to ground and expand our skills.

For a long time I have been sitting on a significant body of knowledge – a body of knowledge that has grown to well over one hundred step-by-step crystal healing techniques – but I haven’t known how to get it to you.

I realized that publishing this material in print would not really work. The presentation requires a versatile combination of text, photos, drawings, diagrams and video clips, in an adaptable sequence, suited to different learning styles and different levels of experience.

I dreamed of a web site – a web site that could make the information come alive even better than a classroom; a web site that would be a wonderful source of knowledge; a place that you can visit again and again. But the prospect of building such a web site, in all its intricacies and demands, seemed way too daunting! 

With much encouragement (insistence?) from the students who have taken my courses, I have now begun the process of sculpting CHT out of the mass of knowledge that has been accumulating, at a steady pace, since 1995.

Think of this reference as a crossover – a hybrid between a book and a web site. This is an online book that can be delivered to you, in sections, as the material is ready, a book that can be updated regularly, a book that can grow.

The plan is to regularly add new information and new courses, allowing this web site to evolve systematically into the next great resource in crystal healing.

Batya, thank you for coming on the show.

Hi, thank you so much, it’s so nice to be here.

Wonderful. Batya, let’s begin with some landscape and some history. I always enjoy giving a context. So how about you tell us about your background?

Sure. Um I grew up in Los Angeles. I moved to New York City for college with the intention of becoming both an artist and a therapist. I had wanted to be an artist since I was five, so that was set in stone, and then I decided to add in being a therapist. So I majored in visual arts, I minored in psychology, and after graduation I worked as an artist, as I had planned for eleven years, um mainly making kids who both, which are marital agreements. And they’re usually art pieces hung on the walls.

Um since ancient times they’ve sort of been decorated. And I would you know meet with couples and I would design them based on their love story, their interests, their hopes, their dreams, what brought them together. So that was sort of my first um entree into working with couples and I loved it.

And then I slowly started becoming an interior decorator. Um I was found by mainly middle aged men who needed a female voice to redecorate their apartments and help them with renovations. And then after a little while doing that, um I was pregnant with my second child by that point, and I sort of had this inkling, this um yearning inside saying like it’s it’s either time to further commit to the interior decorating or it’s time to go back to school to be a therapist.

So I actually did something that I helped clients do now, which is I envisioned myself in the life of what I thought an interior decorator would be, you know meeting, with clients at stores, meeting with them in their apartments, talking to them about colors and fabrics.

And then I envisioned myself sitting in an office with lots of books behind me, talking to people about their lives, and my body just said immediately, that’s it, that’s right, that’s what you should be doing.

Larimar: Be the Distinctive, Unique You that You are Meant to Be

Welcome back to the Schapera show where Viv and Neil explore this big adventure called life. This is the part of the show where I, Vivien, talk to and about crystals.

Our crystal guest today is Larimar. Larimar is one of the rarest gem materials on earth. Sounds fantastic, doesn’t it? It’s true in terms of geographic origin. It is found in only one known location, the Barahona region of the Dominican Republic.

Larimar is a pectolite, yes, and pectolites are found elsewhere, yes, but the color of Larimar is unique in the pectolite world, ranging from pale sky blue to deep turquoise, often streaked with white patterns that resemble sunlight moving across shallow water. What a poetic description.

This singular origin is not a marketing claim. It is a geological fact. The blue comes from the presence of copper in a volcanic hydrothermal environment. Sounds like an adventure story, doesn’t it? This volcanic hydrothermal environment yields a specific convergence of fire, water, and mineral chemistry plus time, giving Larimar a distinctive structural identity.

In a nutshell, Larimar is born of volcanic fire and shaped by circulating mineral rich water, or we could say fire contained in water. The result is a stone that does not extinguish intensity, but instead regulates it. Fire alone can flare and scorch. Water alone can stagnate and cool excessively. Fire submerged in water is extinguished. Fire held in water is regulated power. It remains.

When I see this laid out in front of me, it reveals to me how the different ways that I use Larimar in crystal surgery are not disparate, but thematically integrated.

Peristerite: Relax in an Opening Manner, not Collapsing

Until I began writing about my beloved Sunstone Mix lingam, I had no idea that it is not a combination of Sunstone and Moonstone but of different minerals.

Related, yes, also felt spa, but no, no, no, not the same.

At first upon discovering that I was subject to wrong information I was horrified. How many times was this happening to me was the first thought that I had. The dealer, the dealers that I work with are totally trustworthy so what was actually going on here and how do I make sure it doesn’t happen again? And then the crystal started talking to me and said, “Ah, that is what my message to you will be all about. Don’t worry, we will sort this out.”

And that was comforting because in crystal surgery the chemistry of a crystal is why it has been selected for procedures. So I’ll say that again, I do not select by name, I select by action and behavior and that comes from the chemistry and the physics of the crystal.

Spirit Report: How Human Actions Destroy Animal Habitat and Degrade the Environment

 

So the purpose of this journey for the Schapera Show,is to travel to the lower world and ask the spirits for guidance on the topic of how human activities are causing environmental degradation and severe loss of habitat for wildlife, animals, birds, fish, insects all over the world, and especially in the Amazon and parts of Africa.

So I’m going to my hollowed-out tree trunk, so already a connection with nature, and I’m looking down at the floor where the portal lets me go through for my descent to the lower world.

And there’s a spinning light, and I go through and I’m high in what feels like space, the darkness of space, and setting my intention, my wish to go down and down and down and down to the lower world.

And the spirits issue a sort of, they issue a statement that’s both mocking of humans and sad, they’re saying, “Thank God humans can’t get their hands on the Lower world.” Includes magnificent areas of jungle and the spirit life.

And I’m still going down, and the spirits are saying that as a generalization humans have spoiled the land, the waters, the environment, the habitat, wherever they’ve gone.

And yes, humans are, in many cases, struggling in their work to try and slow down the rate of environmental degradation and habitat destruction, but they do this in the face of huge commercial interests, and I know they’re going to come back to this point that they’re kind of making right at the start, understand it to be that commercial interests are fundamentally what’s driving this distraction.

And I’m going down and down.

And I’ve seen the land on the place I’ve been too many times before, which is characterized by numerous round, smooth, white, they look like stones or eggs, and it’s always been a good place to start a journey in the lower world, and one of my very large spirit helpers of the lower world comes and I usually climb onto his back, and he often will take me somewhere appropriate for the journey, and he’s taking me to the beach of a large hippo lake, which I’ve been to many times before, and he’s taken me across to the island, which seems to be a place in the lower world that’s very good for accessing information, and the message comes that if this were Earth, the Amazon or other areas that are being degraded and destroyed, we’d be lucky if we saw a vulture flying over a burned landscape.

So it’s a very strong image of destruction and desolation, and I get off the Spirit Helpers back sitting at a table with a bench, and at first I thought the tabletop was made of wood, but it might be made out of stone, and it’s the kind of stone that has numerous images, shapes, and in it that I know I could look into in access information, and I say that I’ve recently been reading a book about how the jungle in the Amazon is being destroyed, and I’ve read numerous online articles to the same effect, and it’s so tragic, it’s so tragic, and I say I personally don’t know if there’s anything I can do, and the whole issue is understanding it, and as if to emphasize the opposite of environmental degradation, the area now is swarming with birds and butterflies, and I’m being shown rivers full of fish and birds, and I say that the richness of the unspoiled environment is astounding, that we have no idea, or most people, besides the few that have gone into unspoiled areas, most people have got no idea just what the richness of an undegraded and undamaged by humans natural environment is like, in terms of plants, trees, water, animal life, bird life, insect life, that we, if we could have an idea of what that richness is really like in an unspoiled environment, we would be even more horrified than we are now, because we’re comparing damaged areas with less damaged areas, rather than with absolute, pristine, untouched areas, and they say, well, you know, let’s come back to the point that they mentioned on the agenda, which is commercial interests, and I think this, this is the bane of humanity, commercial interests, and that we’re at a stage, humans are at a stage of civilization where we’ve prepared a land to support so much of what we do, our food, our trade, our technology, mining, entertainment.
